ABOUT

Redman began his career as an advertising copywriter, mentored by two completely contrasting iconoclasts of the business- Australia’s visual guru, Siimon Reynolds, of Omon, and Singapore’s long copy scribe, Neil French, of The Ball Partnership

At the age of 25 he became Creative Director of Batey Ads Singapore, and helped guide a department of awkward humans to the number one-ranked creative agency in Australasia two years running, and second in the world to BBH London

In six years as an ad-man, he won over 300 awards at every international show for every client he worked on- Visa, Tag Heuer, BP, Mitsubishi, Sony, Mercedes, Hennessy- adding millions in new business wins. His final hurrah was the global launch of Swatch Skin, featuring Tyra Banks. His initial concept involved a naked Woody Allen wandering the streets of New York pondering his lack of attire

Courted by Fallon McElligott, BBDO New York, and Chiat Day LA when he embarked on a photographic road trip across the USA in a beat-up convertible, Redman decided his passion really laid behind a camera. He left it all behind to become a director

His first project was a shoestring charity TVC made for 1000 dollars. It won World’s Best Public Service TVC, a One Show Bronze, and made the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase in Cannes- putting him amongst the hottest commercial directors in the world

His second was for Singapore Airlines’ global launch of their new aircraft and was made with a few more zeroes

He wrote, co-produced, and directed his debut feature film, “The Long Lunch”- a caper flick drawing on his experience of the clash between East and West. Released in 2003, it screened at Cannes, appeared in Official Selection in five international festivals and sold to 8 countries- with the screenplay optioned by the Hollywood producers of “Jackass” for a US re-make

For the last decade, Redman has helmed over usd95 million in productions for a slew of global brands- Sony, Electrolux, Sprite, Pantene, Carlsberg, Sunsilk, Vodafone, Vaseline, Olay, Marriott Hotel, MasterCard, Head & Shoulders, Garnier, Kia, Toyota, and Audi

He has filmed projects from Shanghai to Queenstown, and Jaisalmer to Tokyo, working with Bollywood beauties, Indonesian pop stars, Japanese baseball legends, Australian rugby internationals, and rubbish collectors in Bangkok. His work has appeared as far afield as Brazil, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Europe, Canada and the USA

With over 20 years global experience, Redman has directed projects in Mandarin, Thai, French, Bahasa, Japanese, Cantonese, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog, and, occasionally, in his native English
